Our Story
Since we started over 20 years ago, we’ve sold more than 100 million bottles of wine to customers and won multiple independent awards
We know that it’s not easy for customers to find that perfect bottle of wine, especially when faced with daunting restaurant lists, obscure wine labels and packed supermarket shelves. So, since our foundation, we’ve been on a mission to cut through the confusion and deliver to customers a consistently great wine buying experience.
Virgin Wines was established in 2000 by the Virgin Group and was subsequently acquired by Direct Wines in 2005. In November 2013, the Virgin Wines management team, led by CEO Jay Wright and CFO Graeme Weir, successfully completed a buyout of the business.
Over the following years, we have expanded the brand’s product proposition to reflect our customers’ growing demands. Over recent years this has included the launch of a high-quality craft beer and spirit collection as well as corporate and consumer gift propositions such as our highly popular Wine Advent Calendar.
Today, Virgin Wines accounts for nearly 10% of the UK’s growing £850m online direct to customer wine market. Our active customer base totals more than 180,000, the majority of whom are subscribed to one of our two subscription schemes, WineBank and WinePlan.
